Pakistan’s Crystal Meth (ICE) Epidemic
Alhamdulillah, Jigsaw Charity has taken the decision to support a drug rehabilitation project in Peshawar, KPK, to confront the devastating crisis of crystal meth (ICE), which is spiralling out of control at an alarming rate in Pakistan and KPK in particular.
Why did Jigsaw decide to support this project?
The surge in crystal meth use has reached catastrophic levels in the troubled northwestern province of Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan, a notorious supplier of meth in the region. Rehab centres are overwhelmed, operating at full capacity, and struggling to meet the soaring demand for treatment.
Crystal meth is alarmingly accessible and shockingly cheap, making it dangerously attractive to our youth. One gram of this destructive drug costs around 750 rupees (£2), a staggering drop from around 5,000 rupees (£15) when it first infiltrated Pakistan around 2018.
