Jigsaw aims to be as transparent as possible with its donors. For this reason, we do not hide the fact that in order to fulfil our vision of making the world a better place, reasonable admin costs are necessary. We believe it is more appropriate to show that admin costs are necessary, rather than to hide them.

How much admin do you take?

5p from every £1 is deducted as admin.

Do you use admin to cover wages?

We do not use admin towards staff wages simply because we don’t have any paid staff! Our organisation Jigsaw is operated entirely by volunteers from top to bottom with our constitutional pledge of no paid staff ever.

How is the admin used?

Admin is used to help cover running costs such as accountant fees, office costs, website upkeep, governance costs, marketing costs, and banking fees etc. Even then, if we find we have surplus admin at the end of the year, we have the flexibility to allocate the surplus amount towards a project.

Can you not use gift aid instead of taking admin?

Unfortunately, only around 10% of donors utilise the gift aid option which does not guarantee that we will get enough funding to cover our running costs & project costs. As we are a volunteer run organisation, the gift aid will allow us to cover any shortfalls within the organisation as and when required. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to utilise the gift aid option if you are a UK tax payer.

Is it Islamically correct to take admin?

The Quran specifies how zakat is to be distributed precisely and one of the eight categories mentioned by Allah (SWT) is those who administer the Zakat.

Can I donate towards admin costs?

Yes, you can and it’s actually a smart option as it is good value for money. Don’t look at admin as a fee, rather look at is as a Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity) as your admin donation will be used towards helping to facilitate more projects.
